Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of fathers who took paternity leave. A total of 14 fathers were interviewed and a Consensual Qualitative Research Method was employed to analyze experiences they had while on paternal leave. The results identified 14 main categories for five domains. The first domain is about the reason for taking paternity leave. A typical category is that there was no one else but the father himself to take care of their child(ren), with the wife having returned to work. The second domain is about the feelings fathers had while on paternity leave. A general category is ¡®hardship¡¯ and ¡®happiness¡¯. The relationship with the wife is the third domain, general category is increasing his understanding of wife's stress on child caring and housework. The relationship with children is the fourth domain. Increasing his understanding of the uniqueness of the child was a typical category. The fifth domain is about the life after his returning to work. A general category is changes of his attitude on child caring. Based on these results, policy implications are suggested.
